Championship Play-off Dates
The proposed 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Final dates have been confirmed across all three divisions, so with Aston Villa on the verge of confirming their place in the upcoming weeks, with automatic promotion unlikely, it’s time to get your diaries out.
The first legs of the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Finals will take place on 11 and 12 of May, with the return legs three days later on the 14 and 15.
MOMS is assuming the play-off game between 3rd vs 6th in the league table is labelled ‘Championship A’ and 4th vs 5th is ‘Championship B’ in the dates below.
Just five points separate fifth placed Derby County and eleventh placed Preston North End, with a total of eight teams contesting the remaining three Championship Play-Off places available.
From our detailed look at the remaining fixtures of the season, which pit a lot of the potential play-off candidates against each other, the favourites in our book are: Cardiff City, Villa, Derby and Middlesbrough or Millwall.
Bristol City and Sheffield United (and even Brentford) will need to finish strong and pray for results to go their way to have any chance. hot on their tails.
At the moment, Villa are most likely looking at 4th place, so they would be in the ‘Championship B’ play-off game.
The proposed 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship Play-Off Semi-Final schedule is as follows:

If Aston Villa make it to the Championship play-off final, then a good omen is it’s on the 26th May, the same day as when Villa won the European Cup back in 1982.
Surely, we’ll win it, just because of that?!

It’s my fault we will be on play off final – I’m organising a European Cup final that day – so will miss it again. Missed 1982 as I had my final university exam the same day (I managed to pass) this time organising Track and Field athletics European Champions Cup at the Alexander Stadium.
