Andrés García Gets Loan Move to Refocus His Villa Career

Andrés García Getafe loan

Aston Villa have confirmed Andrés García has joined Getafe on a season-long loan to give him regular minutes.

The full-back made eight appearances in all competitions last season, adding to the 10 he managed in his debut campaign after signing for the club. Injuries have played a large part in that. García arrived from Levante’s academy with a reputation for pace down the flank, and Unai Emery gave him an early run in the side, but fitness problems have repeatedly interrupted whatever momentum he built.

The numbers tell the story clearly enough. In 2024-25, García made five Premier League starts plus two substitute appearances, 320 minutes in total. Last season that fell to a single start and five appearances off the bench, just 84 minutes in the league all year. For a player signed for an estimated £6m from Spain’s Segunda División, that is a stalled career rather than a developing one.

García was part of the Spain Under-21 squad at the 2025 European Championship, a reminder that the talent that persuaded Villa to sign him hasn’t gone anywhere, even if the opportunities to show it have.

At 23, with two years of his Villa career already lost to fitness and a lack of minutes, a loan to Getafe is less a gamble than a necessity. He needs games or he faces potential regression.
