‘Holte Enders in the Sun’
A small consortium of 50-odd Aston Villa fans called ‘Holte Enders in the Sun’ joined football fans around the world in purchasing shares in the Spanish club Real Oviedo to help secure the club’s immediate future.
Yesterday, it was announced that Real Oviedo had avoided the grim reaper due to the never-say-die efforts of Real Oviedo fans and their new international fans and shareholders. Spanish football could have potentially lost a club, which formed in 1926, has a 30,500 stadium and until recently used to be a top flight Liga team.
Today the club received some additional incredible news when the world’s richest man Carlos Slim became the major shareholder of the club, buying 2,000,000 € of shares.
Of course, MOMS and the ‘Holte Enders in the Sky’ are flattered Mr Slim followed our lead and joined us in the boardroom. Where we already sat with Real Madrid (who bought 100,000€ of shares, ex-Oviedo players like Chelsea’s Juan Mata, Swansea’s Michu, as well as other new shareholding football fans from the UK, Ireland and the rest of the world.
More importantly though, it’s an incredible Hollywood-like end to a worrying time for the proud Spanish club that hail from the North Spain region of Asturias.
The full story to come, but in the meantime you too can join the ‘Holte Enders in the Sun’, the deadline is 11.00pm tonight (so be quick!).
Why not pick up a share or two while MOTD is on. It’s quick and easy. (Passport refers to your passport number, although I think it’s possible to leave blank) [THE DEADLINE HAS NOW PASSED]
Real Oviedo first game under the ownership of the Holte Enders in the Sun, Mr Slim and co, ended in a 1-1 draw away at Athletico Madrid ‘B’. They remain 4th in Spain’s third tier league.
