The Squad Numbers of Aston Villa’s New Signings

With a trio of new signings confirmed this week, Aston Villa finally get to fill a few of the  more traditional numbers on the squad list. As we said in the last squad number announcement, the gaps did suggest there were more incoming players before the transfer window closed.

So what numbers did the new signings get?

Number One

As already discussed the goal keeping situation is brewing up to be an open and interesting one, but it’s Norwegian Orjan Nyland who picks up the number ‘1’ shirt.

Whether he’ll get number one status will be determined if he wins a three-way battle with Jed Steer and fellow new boy Andrea Moreira.

May the best man win.

Number Four

Number ‘4’ shirt has been picked up by Axel Tuanzebe. After a stop-start loan period last season, hopefully we’ll get a better look at what the Manchester United youngster can do. Will James Bree suffer, as a result? Or will Tuanzebe play more at centre-back?

Number Seven

Probably the best signing of all this summer, John McGinn will hopefully add a bit of pep and dynamism to the Villa midfield and provide Jack Grealish with a decent foil. McGinn selects the number seven shirt.
