“We’re in a good place,” admitted Steven Gerrard, during the pre-match press conference for the Thursday evening clash against Leeds United. “We’ve got the majority of the team fit and available”.
The main concern had been whether the two members of Villa’s back four that missed the Southampton game at the weekend would return from their Covid-related absence.
“Ezri Konsa’s back available, Lucas Digne’s back,” confirmed the Villa boss. “So I’ve got some tough decisions from now until kick-off. That’s the position I like to be in.”
Carney Chukwuemeka also returns to the match day squad, giving Villa strength in depth at a key time of the season, just when back-to-back wins have suddenly given the team a foundation for momentum.
“There’s only Marvelous Nakamba who we’re waiting for to come back into the group,” added Gerrard.
With the trip to Leeds being swiftly followed by another away match against West Ham on Sunday, the returning numbers is a big bonus for Villa, who will be looking to extend their winning run.
