New Aston Villa Shirt Numbers
Call MOMS old fashioned, but a team’s best players should grab a 1 to 11 number that symbolises their position, if they can. Leave the silly numbers to the NFL. The good news is that Aston Villa’s two latest arrivals – Matty Cash and Ollie Watkins – have both confirmed traditional numbers.
after arriving from Nottingham Forest, Cash has taken the traditional right-back number of No.2, which previously was last the number of Belgian defender Ritchie De Laet during the 2018/19 season.
Marvelous Nakamba, according to the club, has ‘kindly agreed’ to give Watkins his preferred No.11 following his arrival from Brentford, the number that he wore throughout his three years with the Bees.
The Zimbabwean midfielder will now take up No.19 shirt for 2020/21.
Mings Decision
Meanwhile, Tyrone Mings has taken to social media to help him decide whether he should drop his No.40 shirt for the definitive centre-back shirt number 5.
Hmmm… shirt number for next year?

Since it was MOMS first proper shirt number, there’s only one way to go with his choice. Currently the results of a poll on Twitter, that Mings set up, seems to agree that he should switch to the No.5 ASAP.
After all, it’s been an important shirt number in Villa history – most notably worn by both Ken McNaught and Paul McGrath.
