This latest incarnation of the Aston Villa team are marvellously creative in finding ways to lose games, with the defence excelling at gifting opponents with three points.

Probably the most memorable example being when Villa were 2-0 up with 18 minutes to play at Leicester, yet still managed to lose 3-2, with Guzan allowing a 5 ft 5 winger to out jump him to score the winner in the last-minute.

At Vicarage Road last weekend, Villa even topped that. 2-1 on 90 minutes, they still transpired to lose. This time the blame must go to Black, who wasn’t defensive enough after the team went down to 10 men – Bacuna switching to be in a central defensive three? Come on.

 

Anyway, enough of the latest Villa farce, here’s five reasons to be cheerful as Aston Villa fans.

 

2. The Geordie Nation

As we all know, the Geordies like a good relegation party judging by the time we relegated them at Villa Park. They still haven’t forgiven us for our banner banter, which means they will becoming this Saturday for revenge. Unfortunately, Villa supporters are so jaded by this season’s relegation and have redefined deprecating humour to the extent that zero f**ks will be given.

The Geordie Nation are normally pretty good when it comes to banners (see below) and have suffered the same lack of ambition Villa have in recent years under Mike Ashley.

 

I just hope that if they do come to take the pi** they can lift their banner game beyond the naff efforts of ‘Glum in the Brum’ and ‘Who’s your messiah now – William or Harry?’

It would be good to make this an ongoing banner war rivalry, so for that reason, I’ll be hoping for a Villa win (less chance than Leicester’s 5000/1 to win the league) to potentially relegate them once again, so we can see them again next season.
