CHELSEA are eyeing a surprise January move for Villa striker Gabby Agbonlahor, according to reports.
Unlikely Men
Chelsea are expected to bring in a striker in January to alleviate the pressure on out-of-form summer signing Alvaro Morata.
Antonio Conte has shown he has doubts about Michy Batshuayi, leading to a host of strikers being linked with a move to Stamford Bridge.
Carroll, Crouch…
Fernando Llorente was one possibility until the Blues missed out on him in the summer to Tottenham and Andy Carroll was also surprisingly being linked earlier in the week.
However, an injury to the West Ham forward had reportedly seen Chelsea switch their attention to an even more unlikely target – Peter Crouch.
Conte though has question marks about the ex-England man’s age, plus the 36-year-old recently signed a new deal with Stoke, so won’t be too cheap.
So, after the unlikely comes the seemingly insane – enter stage left Gabby Agbonlahor.
Captain’s Recommendation
It’s been well-documented that the modern day Aston Villa legend has only made fleeting appearances this season for Villa due to his aversion to playing in the Championship. A division he regards to be well below his skill set.
The Villa striker’s contract runs out at the end of the season and it’s believed he’s open to a move to Stamford Bridge, after current Villa skipper John Terry recommended him to his former club.
After Terry confessed that Agbonlahor was the best Villa striker he’s ever faced, in riveting interview undertaken in a small car that was shown on Villa’s social media channels, Chelsea contacted their former centre-back stating their interest.
The unlikely move for Agbonlahor seems to reflect the current situation at Chelsea whereby Conte gets little say on transfers, with match-maker Terry seeming to have more sway.
The former Juve boss admitted last week the Blues were likely to do more business but he revealed those above him were making the “final decisions”.
It’s thought that Chelsea scouts spying in the bushes of Bodymoor Heath were especially impressed with Gabby’s training session strike today…
When asked today about the potential transfer of the Villa hero, Conte replied: “I don’t know. The club knows very well my opinion.
“The final decision is for the club.”
Whether Chelsea can afford Agbonlahor’s wage demands remains to be seen though, as that will be the obvious final obstacle to any deal.

Hang on there, have I just woken up from a coma?..is it April 1st ? Am I dreaming i’ve just read this waffle or has the footballing world gone mad ? Agbonlahor off to Chelsea ? I’d take him to London myself and carry his bag too ! OK, A Great player when in his prime, but now sadly well past his sell by date ( unless Conte is reading this, then ignore me, im just emotional to see him go. Oh! he’s still worth 50m by the way but as I like Chelsea because of JT he’s yours for offers over £2.50p plus a half a dozen of your best players please including Hazard or on ya bike !
This is the best yet he cant get on at villa and chelsea want him thats the best joke i heard in years go on gabby get another couple of million for nottin y not. not a bad lad but pitty it didnt go the way we would have hoped
Sounds legit
what worries me is how much villa will have to pay to get Chelsea to have him
I understand that Gabby’s wage demands are not the issue. Bruce is refusing to sell him to Chelsea unless a swap involving Kante coming the other way is part of the deal. Apparently Bruce wants another defensive midfielder to play alongside Whelan and Jedinak.
Yep, I’ve that about Bruce wanting Kante as part of the deal too. I’m surprised Keith Wyness didn’t mention it in his radio interview on Friday. Haha.
Gabby will retire in May. Trust me
Must be April 1st. Well why not. With the talant at Chelsea he’d hit the back of the net more often. However a pinch of salts appropriate.
