Aston Villa’s Announcement Timing of Pau Torres Signing and the Fee Revision

When Will Pau Torres Sign for Aston Villa?

While reports firmed up this week for the signing of Pau Torres from Villarreal on a five-year deal, it’s thought the club won’t be officially announcing the deal until next week.

Today, Villa released their communications regarding the official announcement of Youri Tielemans in the new Villa home shirt. However, Torres is currently on holiday and has been unable to attend a medical examination, finalise the details, and fulfill his promotional obligations. According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter (see below), who has been monitoring the deal closely, Torres will fly into the UK next week to officially complete the deal.

Unai Emery is eager to have Torres on board at the beginning of July, before the preseason kicks off and the camp in the US begins, where Villa will participate in the Premier League Summer Series.

How much will Pau Torres Cost Villa?

There had been wild disparity in the reported transfer fees for Torres. Talksport originally stated £55m, while other outlets like the Guardian went with £35m. The actual fee has since been reported by several outlets as circa £31.5m with add-ons.

This time, last year, Torres was being touted for a move to the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea for around £43m, so now being in the final year of his contract at Villarreal, a £31.5m fee seems realistic. The original figure of £55m is thought to be the value of the actual release clause in his Villarreal contract.

  1. When I see him in a Villa shirt ( don’t think much of the shirts ) and signing a contract then I will believe it. But we do need new signings before pre season.
