Villa Set to Announce Goretzka Signing
Aston Villa are set to confirm the signing of Leon Goretzka, with reports, including German Sky Sports, reporting the midfielder has completed his medical at Villa.
The deal is expected to be for two years, with an option for a further year, and comes with wages reported to be in the region of €5-6m net a season. That represents a drop from earlier reports, which sighted Goretzka was holding out for closer to €7m net and a signing-on fee of €10m. The player will naturally receive a sizeable fee, whether it’s close to €10m is another matter.
Villa will be hopeful of registering Goretzka in time to face Arsenal in their next fixture, though question marks remain over how sharp he can be given his unusual summer.
Out of contract since leaving Bayern Munich, despite taking part in the World Cup for Germany, Goretzka has spent the window as a free agent without a club-run pre-season behind him.
Unai Emery, who personally courted Goretzka, potentially won’t rush him into action, as Villa hope the player can roll back the years.
