Aston Villa Summer Transfer Links
In the one piece of solid transfer news of the week, Villa welcomed their first signing of the season and potentially one of the most important transfers they’ll make this window. Tommy Elphick signed from Bournemouth for just £3 million and is looking likely to become the new captain, leading a stronger backline in the new season. Elphick cut short his honeymoon by five days in order to get his Villa deal wrapped up quicker, so preparations could move forward and he could welcome the rest of his new incoming teammates to B6.

Young Midfielder Link
The freshest transfer news to be associated with Villa this week was an apparent interest in snatching Reading’s best, bright and upcoming midfielder Aaron Tshibola. According to local Reading press, Tshibola is attracting lots of attention from rival clubs in the Championship and some Premier League clubs as well. At only 21-years-old the highly-rated young midfielder is hot property and apparently Reading have already rejected a host of offers around the £2 million mark.
Goalkeeping Option
With so many critics gathering around Brad Guzan last year, after he made so many mistakes and looked very frail behind the backline, one of Villa’s main priorities is signing a new goalkeeper.
We’ve been linked with many keepers within the Championship, such as Keiran Westwood, but as of yet the only established interest has apparently been towards Costel Pantilimon. The Mirror reported on how the Watford keeper playing second fiddle to Heurelho Gomes is seeking regular playing time and apparently Di Matteo is willing to offer him that, despite the Romanian only moving to Vicarage Road last January.
Business for Brady?
Whilst Villa’s only player at Euros Ciaran Clark is performing in a mediocre fashion, one of his teammates at the tournament has apparently caught Di Matteo’s eye. The Birmingham Mail reported that Robbie Brady, who was also relegated to the Championship with Norwich, is on Villa’s wish list and outlines Di Matteo’s intentions to buy a new winger that has a lot of quality when crossing the ball. Hopefully, this means we will see the best out of Rudy Gestede with some better deliveries in this upcoming season.
Attention for Amavi
Despite Jordan Amavi only making a handful of appearances last season, Villa fans know how much promise and potential the young 22-year-old has to offer. He looked a top player and unfortunately we’ve been unable to keep his talents quiet as a hidden gem with all sorts of top European clubs and mid-table Ligue 1 teams stalking him like vultures. The Express reported on how the likes of Liverpool, Lyon, AC Milan and more, have been probing the club for information on the French full-back.
Veretout to Leave
Jordan Veretout has apparently confirmed reports that he’d like to leave the club this summer after the poor treatment he received last season. L’Equipe reported on how another one of Villa’s French transfers is looking for a move elsewhere, with European clubs and Premier League interest from Bournemouth, wanting to acquire themselves a creative midfielder. Veretout failed to impress last season but it’s difficult to judge him on that, after all the troubles that went on.
Okore Persuaded by Fresh Start
We were bombarded by rumours that Jores Okore was dying to leave Villa Park in order to push his career forward after failing to progress in claret and blue. However, directly after the new owner was ratified and Di Matteo came into the club with a strong backroom staff, Okore was persuaded to change his mind. According to Bold.dk, the pacey centre-back’s agent revealed how Okore is now happy to stay due to the fresh optimism that Tony Xia has brought back to the club. I’m sure he’d build a strong partnership alongside Elphick for the coming season.

I’d like us to go for Leed’s young Lewis Cook could be a good replacement for Westwood and at only 19 could become a good Villa icon. Also with Petrov returning he could learn alot from him! Also Okore and Elphick could be a good partnership. Amavi i hope we do whatever it takes to keep him! Then its just Keeper and another striker incase Ayew goe’s. Then we will be straight up to the Prem! Not much needs to be spent, no point buying players for the sake of it like the old board did in Jan!
Took a long time for the confirmation. Now its sorted. Get players out and get new players in ASAP. Need a full pre season training, unlike years past. Alot say how tough the Championship is…so is the prem…those who say that wouldnt know. Refuse to look at any team as competition,or any player as a must have, we should be better than them all. Put faith in new set up, stability and cash. I know its not as easy as it sounds, but being cynical has no place anymore, only positives from now on.
Morrison tweeted that he will be in Birmingham tomorrow for a medical. A great talent, and hopefully, at 24 his attitude can match his undoubted ability.
He’s just put Ireland through to the knockouts with a great goal
That might put he’s value up a bit. sweet and sour
I said that as soon as the goal went in, I was happy for the Irish but cringing at the likelihood of us getting Brady decreasing fast.
Brady would be a great signing he whips a great cross in.
I can see Rudy G winning the golden head if we can get him
“The golden head”.. epic comment.
If we manage to keep Amavi he’ll probably get golden head anyway but that looks unlikely now.
reports linking us with ravell morison too
worth a look as he is a real talent and to come back close to home could be good for player and club
gamble but worth a chance if rdm thinks so
