TWO policeman are now facing criminal charges over the death of former Aston Villa striker Dalian Atkinson.
The Independent Police Complaints Commission has been investigating his death to see if there was indeed malpractice by the police for over a year now, and the Independent Office for Police Conduct has now referred the death of Atkinson to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider potential criminal charges against two police officers.
It’s been over two years since Atkinson’s death following an incident with police outside an address on Meadow Close, Trench on Monday 15 August 2016. The 48-year-old died in hospital, after being tasered by the police.
The investigation had included:
- Three West Mercia Police officers have been interviewed under criminal caution and were earlier served with gross misconduct notices.
- IPCC investigators have spoken to around 15 other police officers as witnesses.
- Accounts have also been gained from more than 15 members of the public who witnessed events, as well as paramedics.
- A number of forensic experts have been consulted.
- Investigators have transcribed relevant police Airwave radio transmissions and examined police policies on the use of force.
- Analysis of a Taser deployed during the incident has been carried out.
It’s been a long wait for Atkinson’s family looking for answers and it seems they are now in the last stage of finally getting at least some justice for happened.

I’m so pleased that these people will be held accountable for D’s death no one should die in those circumstances.
never forgotten big man
It’s about time. Dalian was one of the kindest people you could ever meet. Some of the police seem to have the attitude of being trigger happy when it comes to tasers.
