Some of you would have seen Stiliyan Petrov talking on BT Sport after the Villa vs WBA league game on Tuesday night about discussions with Tim Sherwood over a possible role on the first team coaching staff.
The good news is it’s reported that Petrov’s accepted a first team coaching position.
You will remember that Paul Lambert had previously invited Stan back to work in the Villa coaching staff after he won his battle with acute leukaemia in 2012. Petrov, 35, had initially accepted a position as an assistant to development coach Gordon Cowans, but shortly after, changed his mind to take more time out before returning to the game in a professional capacity.
Sherwood insists it’s not simply a PR exercise and Petrov’s input will be important to the first team.
“I would never bring him in to be a mascot. He’s got a very technical and gifted mind, I want him in here as quick as possible,” said Sherwood.
“Stan will always have a place at this football club while I’m manager.”
Credit must go to Sherwood for returning some Villan fabric to the coaching set-up, after also welcoming Kevin MacDonald back through the gates of Villa Park.
Welcome back Stan (again) and good luck! UTV

Yes, two very smart moves by TS, getting Stan and Mac back. And I am enjoying the theatrics he brings. Still has to keep us up though.
WELCOME HOME STAN
