Steven Gerrard Misses Chelsea Game
Aston Villa’s troubles with Covid-19 continue as Head Coach Steven Gerrard was confirmed to be unable to attend Villa’s next two Premier League matches with Chelsea and Leeds United as he will be isolating after testing positive for COVID-19.
With the Villa Park Boxing Day clash with Chelsea still slated to take place, supporters will be curious to see the teamsheet, after the previous clash with Burnley was called off two hours prior to kick-off, with Villa unable to field a team.
How strong will Villa’s first XI be?
“I don’t really know what position we’re going to be in come the game,” said Gerrard, at his pre-match press conference. “At the moment, we’ve got enough to play.”
“I expect the game to go ahead – I hope the game goes ahead”, added Gerrard, despite three Premier League games being called off on Boxing Day.
The Villa vs Chelsea game currently seems all set, with the fact it’s being broadcast on Sky TV, meaning it’s less likely to be postponed at short notice.
Still, according to Villa’s boss, the situation is still something to be eyed with caution.
“In terms of the COVID picture and the situation here at Villa, it’s changing on a daily basis so it’s very unpredictable and hard to call,” concluded Gerrard.

The Unapologetic and Dysfunctional Villa Xmas 2021 Special – Part 1
2021 was a certainly a transformative year for Aston Villa. The fairytale duo of Dean Smith and Jack Grealish were no more and the club received a Steven Gerrard facelift. On the field we’ve seen indifferent form at the end of one season and the start of another, although now with a new boss man in charge, Villa look leaner and meaner. Will Covid derail the progress in 2022 though?
To look back on a madcap 12 months for Aston Villa football club, the My Old Man Said team have sat down to knock out another two-part Unapologetic and Dysfunctional Villa Christmas Special.
Who is the ‘Villa Player of the Year…that isn’t Jack Grealish’? Who is the ‘Most Improved Player That Needed to Improve’? What were Villa’s best pieces of business – in and out of the club – in 2021? What were the ‘Best Limbs Moments of 2021’?
The Unapologetic and Dysfunctional Villa Christmas Special judges these and much, much more.
There’s also a few old MOMS favourites too, including a ‘Villa Year in a Villa Minute’, Five Reasons to be Cheerful, Media Muppet of the Year and The Good, Bad & Ugly of Villa’s year.
Enjoy.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all our listeners.
