How Aston Villa’s 2020 Destiny is Dictated by the January Transfer Window

Villa Nightmares and Hope

It was the proverbial nightmare before and after Christmas for Aston Villa, before a Dean Smith tactical switch against Burnley gave them hope for 2020. Can Villa survive a big triple injury blow though? With three injuries to arguably the five player spine (Grealish and Mings the only fit players) of the Villa’s team now out long-term, the January transfer window is now key to the club’s survival hopes.

David and Chris are joined by newcomer Phillip Shaw, to take a in-depth look at the Villa goings on over the past few weeks, and examine life after the blow of losing Tom Heaton, Wesley and John McGinn.

There’s some interesting stats to be discussed that throw-up big questions about Villa’s overall performances. We also entertain the ‘Smith out’ viewpoint, look at other ‘soft touch’ relegation candidates and discuss how Villa need a change of culture beyond the 1st team.

Outside of the Villa-verse, we look at the further expansion of the MLS, Newcastle’s attempts to fill empty seats and the Zlatan Ibrahimovic statue incident.

Welcome back and we look forward to keeping you entertained through the new year of 2020.

  1. Choppy waters in the EFL if you come back down I’d suggest…

    You’ll all probably disagree though!

  2. My honest opinion, no we won’t survive unless we quickly make some significant signings can’t understand Drinkwater not good enough for Burnley who we beat comfortably so how is he going to save us. And now we are linked with a 37 year old keeper, look we are not going to stay up on the cheap we need quality players and an established proven goal scorer to stand any chance , it could of course all be paper talk but I have lost confidence in DS he appears tactically poor and having signed Drinkwater does nothing to make me feel any better. Hope I’m wrong, we may be surprised by a couple of major signings an that what is needed no doubt.
