Aston Villa Injury Update – Chelsea Away
Aston Villa players were dropping like flies before the international break, with potentially half of what could been Dean Smith’s first eleven missing against Brentford. At today’s pre-match Chelsea press conference, Dean Smith provided supporters with better news, with several players due to return.
“We should be welcoming Ollie Watkins back,” said Smith, of the striker who featured from the bench against Brentford. “We’ve also got Leon Bailey back to full fitness now.”
The absent Bailey has been a big miss, after supporters got a glimpse of him as a substitute against Watford. In terms of Villa coping with life after Jack Grealish, Bailey’s pace was expected to provide considerable impact to Villa’s attack from wider positions.
“Bertrand Traore has trained the last couple of days as well,” added Smith, as Villa’s wide midfield ranks increase further.
The two Covid-19 absentees against Brentford, John McGinn and Jacob Ramsey, will also return against Chelsea, giving Villa’s match day squad a much stronger look to it.
However, Villa will miss both Emi Buendia and Emiliano Martinez due to their quarantine period after their international duty in South America, which they are completing in the green listed Croatia, to allow them to train and avoid a government hotel quarantine period.
The duo will return in the a Villa Park clash against Everton.

No mention of Konza following his knock against Brentford, so I guess that means he’s out.
No mention means he’s not an injury concern. He’s been in the training photos etc.
