Aston Villa completed an unbeaten month of December with a decent 1-1 draw at Chelsea to move into 5th place in the Premier League, as Dean Smith further signalled he has found the perfect balance to his team and tactics.
With Villa still topping the average shots per game table in the Premier League, while their defence registered four clean sheets in December, the balance of attack and defence in this Villa team certainly has hit a sweet spot.
Is it the foundations to challenge for the European football places this season? The month of January, that serves up fixtures against the likes of Manchester United, Everton and Spurs, will certainly provide a clear indication of the team’s potential.
