Aston Villa vs Cardiff City Awaits Date
Aston Villa’s FA Cup 5th round tie against Cardiff City will be played on the weekend of March 1/2, just days before their Champions League last-16 first leg on March 4/5. Villa will expect the FA and broadcasters to schedule the match for Saturday, March 1, ensuring maximum preparation time for their crucial European fixture.
As a seeded team for the last 16 of the Champions League, Villa will be away in the first leg, so the earlier their FA Cup game is, the better. Villa will begin to get a better picture of who they will play next in the Champions League after the first leg of the play-off games between Sporting CP and Borussia Dortmund and Club Bruges and Atalanta are played this week.
Unai Emery is expected to rotate his squad for the FA Cup clash, but given Villa’s squad depth, he will be confident of securing progression to the quarter-finals. Cardiff, currently struggling in the Championship, have managed just one away league win in 15 games this season, though they have claimed FA Cup victories on the road against Stoke City and Sheffield United in previous rounds.
Meanwhile, Villa’s Premier League fixture against Liverpool has been rescheduled due to the Reds’ participation in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, March 16. As a result, Villa will now host Arne Slot’s side on Wednesday, February 19, at 7:30 pm. Including their FA Cup tie against Spurs, Villa are now set for four consecutive home games at Villa Park.
