Aston Villa Winger’s Transfer Out Begins to Firm Up

Trezeguet Transfer to Trabzonspor Set

It seems that the interest of Trabzonspor in Trezeguet reported earlier in the month is now firming up, with reports in Turkey suggesting a deal of circa £3m has been agreed in principle between the Turkish club and Aston Villa.

Once the Egyptian international agrees personal terms and other formalities, he’ll be the second player to leave Villa Park this summer, following Matt Targett’s earlier move to Newcastle for £15m.

Trezeguet had been an active member of the Villa matchday squad until a serious ACL injury sidelined him between April 2021 to January 2022. The winger was then sent out on loan to Turkey to join İstanbul Başakşehir for the rest of the season. A move that put him in the shop window in Turkey to lay the foundations for this subsequent move to Trabzonspor.

Despite certain local press members at the time constantly framing Villa’s survival in the 2019/20 season as being down to Jack Grealish, no player had more impact in ‘Project Restart’ than Trezeguet, especially in the closing few fixtures, when the Egyptian’s goals were vital in putting points on the board to help Villa make their miracle escape.

Trezeguet Legacy

Trezeguet signed for Villa from Kasimpasa for around £8.5m in 2019, scoring eight Premier League goals in 56 league appearances. His most famous goal though came in injury-time in the 2020 League Cup semi-final second leg against Leicester City. A goal that set Villa Park alight and took Villa to Wembley.
