Aston Villa Terminate Another Contract as They Trim Squad Filler Further

Ørjan Nyland Leaves Aston Villa

The club have confirmed on transfer deadline day that goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland’s contract has been mutually terminated, suggesting they failed to find a buyer for his services in the window.

The Norwegian will be best remembered for his heroics in the League Cup two-legged semi-final against Leicester City. When his dazzling displays, especially in the first half at Villa Park, set-up Villa’s trip to Wembley, where he also played.

Later, in the restart period he infamously was the main protagonist in the Hawkeye incident against Sheffield United, which neutral football fans claim to be the incident that kept Villa in the Premier League. Not true, but we thank him for it anyway.

While ultimately a shaky command of his box, especially on crosses, let him down, he was a first rate shot stopper.

It may have been brief, but it was certainly entertaining for both the keeper and supporters alike.

Club’s Nyland Statement

Aston Villa can confirm that Ørjan Nyland has left the club after agreeing a mutual termination of his contract.

The Norwegian goalkeeper signed in August 2018 from Ingolstadt and would go on to make 36 appearances in all competitions for the club.

Last season, his displays helped Villa reach the Carabao Cup final, where he was handed a starting berth at Wembley against Manchester City.

This term, he made just one appearance, in the Carabao Cup against Burton Albion.

Aston Villa would like to thank Ørjan for his service to the club and wish him all the best for the future.
