You know the drill, if Aston Villa beat Brighton on Sunday, then for the first time in over a decade, they are back in Europe again.
A hard-fought point for Aston Villa at Anfield, following Brentford’s 3-1 win at Spurs, was vital in terms of putting Villa’s destiny in their own hands on the final day. While Villa entertain Brighton, Spurs are away to Leeds United and Brentford host Manchester City.
Will Spurs put up a fight away from home against a Leeds team needing to win in front of their home crowd to have any chance of, but will they leave themselves too exposed at the back as they search for it? Surely, Manchester City will rest up for the FA Cup final and Champions League final, now that the Premier League title is in the bag. They may have a decent squad depth, but Brentford are the only team to have beaten them at the Etihad this season. Can the Bees complete a memorable double?
It promises to be a nervous Sunday afternoon. Even if Villa are a goal up, they’ll always be a single goal away from potentially missing out on Europe.
