Aston Villa Fixture List 2014/15
After a brutal start to last season with the opening three games against teams that finished in the top four, Villa fans were perhaps looking for an easier start to kick-off the 2014/15 campaign. The problem with Villa though is there is no such thing as an easy game anymore, and just to make things even more unpredictable, last season, Villa had one of the best records against top four teams.
A start of Stoke (a), Newcastle (h) and Hull (h) once upon a time offered Villa a chance to start a season with a bang with a potential nine points, now a more modest total would probably be expected. It’s what follows, starting in September, that is even tougher than the fixture cards dealt last season. Check this out for a run of games between September 13 and October 18:
Liverpool (a), Arsenal (h), Chelsea (a), Manchester City (h) and Everton (a)
Not wanting to jump the gun, but the league table after eight games of the 2014/15 season could make for unsavoury viewing . With Villa in a precarious situation due to the take over situation and Lambert having lost a section of the Villa supporters, if Villa don’t repeat their efforts of last season against the top teams then supporter discontentment could make for a toxic situation.
It’s not an ideal foundation for a season that Villa will potentially be at their most vulnerable in terms of retaining their top flight status, if the previous four campaigns are anything to go on.
Other notable fixtures
November 22nd, which comes a day after November 21st, the date that is recognised as the birthdate of the football club, offers up a home tie against Southampton which serves up the perfect opportunity to celebrate the club’s birthday. It will be the 140th anniversary of the club and offers a chance to mark the club’s history and lift spirits.
Southampton will not only be privy to that celebration, but they will also host the end of season away fancy dress party too at St Mary’s with the match being Villa’s final away fixture of the season.
Bar Villa’s standard December match-up with Manchester United on the 20th December, the congested Christmas period that Villa have struggled over in the past few seasons is manageable this year. Villa will play four teams who finished in the bottom half of the league (or were in the Championship), before mid-January brings a tough treble run of Liverpool (h), Arsenal (a) and Chelsea (h).
The bottom line is whatever order the games are played, it’s the same routine 38 games. The order is different, but the aim until the club is finally sorted out is the same – survival.

They aren’t top clubs until the season starts… they may have been top last season but in football anything can happen!
You might also want to add that we best be safe by the end of March, as April is a terrible run of fixtures, and needing points going into May on the back of that run of games is a precarious position to be in.
