Robin Olsen Signs for Aston Villa
There seems little point to the Premier League transfer window, where Aston Villa are concerned. The club confirmed their fourth pre-window signing, ahead of the window opening next Friday, completing the reported £2.8million permanent signing of goalkeeper Robin Olsen from Roma.
The Swedish international made his debut while on loan at Villa in the last game of the season against Manchester City, where his long kicking caused the eventual Premier League champions problems, leading to Philippe Coutinho’s goal and a great chance for Ollie Watkins.
The 32-year-old international obviously has impressed Steven Gerrard and goalkeeping coach Neil Cutler enough in training to fill the slot of Emiliano Martinez’s No.2.
It’s certainly difficult for Villa supporters to judge him based on his one appearance so far for Villa, but his top flight experience, for most notably Sweden, Roma and Everton, should prove useful, as a stand-in.
Olsen will be keen to get his career back on track, after falling from grace somewhat from the time he was signed by Roma for a reported eight figure sum to replace Alisson, after the Brazilian left for Liverpool.
