Aston Villa’s Poor United Record Ends
The recent history of games between Aston Villa and Manchester United makes for depressing reading. Before Dean Smith’s men’s stunning performance at Old Trafford at the weekend to earn a 1-0 win, Villa had only won once in the last 45 league encounters between the team. It’s a frightening stat.
One of the chief orchestrators of Villa’s misery during this period had been Cristiano Ronaldo, who had never been on the losing side against Villa in 12 games. His return to the Premier League had been ominous, but at Old Trafford, Villa used it as an opportunity to make it 13th time unlucky for CR7.
The weekend’s clash was a game with plenty to talk about and on the latest My Old Man Said podcast, and we certainly looked forward to doing just that.
As well as looking at the latest success of Dean Smith’s new 3-5-2 formation – from Kortney Hause’s winner to Emiliano Martinez’s sh*thousery – we discuss what it means in terms of Villa’s potential this season and the selection headaches it may cause Villa’s Head Coach.
We also catch up on the latest Villa news and spin off in all kinds of directions (as listed below in the episode’s credits).
