Australian Aston Villa Update
Aston Villa began their preseason games in Australia with an occasionally feisty contest against Leeds United, in which they came out 1-0 winners, due to a Danny Ings penalty. Beyond a Philippe Coutinho penalty miss and a few tackles that seemed to have rattled over sensitive fans on social media, the main highlight was seeing the Villa debut of Boubacar Kamara.
The midfielder’s largely assured 45 minutes were a promising sign of what is to come from the 22-year-old midfielder, as Villa seek to strengthen the core of their team. Also, Leon Bailey shows sparks of the player that Villa supporters hoped the club had signed. After a poor first season with the club, hopefully a proper preseason for the forward will help see serious upside from the Jamaican during the upcoming season.
For the forthcoming clash against Brisbane Roar, you’d expect Steven Gerrard to give a few of the youngsters of Villa’s travelling squad a run out before playing a stronger starting XI against Manchester United in Perth.
Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard received an unexpected boost when he detailed Villa’s latest injury news after the Leeds game, with Ezri Konsa back ahead of schedule and available for selection.
