Coventry City 1 vs Aston Villa 3 – Carabao Cup
Aston Villa’s 3-2 win at Spurs was the third away win on a bounce for Unai Emery’s men, and followed swiftly on the heels of a game that was perhaps more important than was first thought – Villa’s mid-week Carabao Cup win at Coventry City.
With many of Villa’s new signings short of game time due to recent injuries or lack of pre-season, the fixture came at just the right time, with Villa also struggling for form in the Premier League. At one point in the second half, Villa managed to have six new signings on the pitch, after substitutions, the first real glimpse of Emery 2.0. It was very much the precursor to seeing six new signings actually start against Spurs at the weekend.
