How Villa’s Rearranged Fixtures Fit Around the Forest Semi-Final
With Aston Villa heading into a two-legged Europa League semi-finals after their 7-1 aggregate demolition of Bologna, their Premier League fixtures in early May have been rearranged to accommodate the two-legged tie against Nottingham Forest. Plus, there will be a further change to the home game against Liverpool, if Villa make it to the final.
Currently, the final home game of the season on Sunday, May 17, against Liverpool, has been switched to a 12.30pm time slot and will be broadcast live on Sky Sports. However, if Villa make it to Istanbul, the game will then be brought forward further, to kick off at 8pm on Friday, May 15, with it still being shown live on Sky Sports.
The schedule now looks like this: Forest away on Thursday 30 April, Spurs at home on Sunday 3 May (7pm, TNT Sports), Forest at home on Thursday 7 May, then Burnley away on Sunday 10 May (2pm, Sky Sports) and Liverpool at home five days later.
Spurs Focus
It’ll certainly be interesting to see if Villa can maintain their focus on their Premier League home game against Spurs, sandwiched in between the two Europa League legs. It’s a game that could both rubber-stamp their own Champions League ambitions and put another nail in Spurs’ hopes of staying in the Premier League next season. When you consider that the North London club is considered one of the ‘Sky Six’, their relegation would only give Villa an advantage in the immediate future when it comes to both sponsorship and the transfer market.
It is a demanding fortnight ahead for Villa, but it’s one that will define their short to mid-term future.
