The Premier League Continue Away Ticket Price Freeze
The Premier League has announced today that it will be extending the £30 cap on away ticket prices for the next two seasons. In the announcement, it acknowledged the atmosphere that travelling fans create and contribute to matches, often the main (and only) atmosphere at most Premier League grounds.
With the ever-increasing home ticket prices now reaching the point that atmospheres are being negatively impacted by both an ageing crowd demographic and a growing amount of tourist fans (who can afford the prices as one-off day out purchases), the price freeze is an acknowledgement that crowds still at least have some role to play for the TV product.
The Premier League issued this statement below:
At a Premier League Shareholders’ meeting today, clubs unanimously agreed to extend the £30 cap on away ticket prices for a further two seasons.
This decision means the £30 cap will have been in place for 12 consecutive seasons.
Away fans help create the incredible atmosphere Premier League matches are renowned for. Since the cap’s implementation in 2016, it has contributed to attendance at away games increasing from 82 per cent to 91 per cent.
The Premier League and clubs also acknowledge the additional costs associated with travelling to follow their teams around the country.
